The Algarve is steeped in layers of history. Since the arrival of the Phoenicians about 3000 years ago, many other civilizations have since come and gone leaving their mark - including the Romans, the Visigoths, the Moors from North Africa and the Christian Reconquista. Later in the 13th Century however, the Portuguese finally reclaimed their terrortory

Albufeira...

Albufeira is one of the most charming and lively summertime resorts along the 270 km coastline of southern Portugal. Summer temperatures are below the extremes of those in the Mediterranean countries and the sea breezes keep down temperatures in the evenings.

In recent years Albufeira has grown from a tiny fishing village to become one of the most well known holiday resorts on the Algarve. Although retaining some of its original charm, in the summer tourists from all over Europe can always find something going on at any hour of the day or night. The town itself consists of “old” and “new” sections which merge seamlessly, spreading off back east along the coast to Balaia, Olhos d'Agua and Falesia, and west to São Rafael, Galé and the links golf course at Salgados.

There are three local golf courses with many more in the surrounding areas and a wide choice of water sports as well as boat trips in the area.

It is for its beaches that Albufeira is internationally renowned, because all of them are different... and they are all equally enchanting. This is a place where people live to the rhythm of the great holiday destinations.

With something for everyone, retired couples feel just as at home here as active teenagers and families with young children alike.
